How Many Cups in a Container of Cool Whip?
Easily substitute whipped cream or any brand of whipped topping in place of Cool Whip using this handy chart to convert ounces (by weight) or millilitres/litres (by volume) to cups. And it works the other way round as well!

In Canada Cool Whip comes in 500 ml and 1 litre tubs which are easy to substitute with cups but in the United States Cool Whip comes in 8/12/16 ounce tubs which are measured by weight and not volume. So when I have a US recipe I'm forever in a quandary about how to measure, even if I'm going to use Cool Whip. Not anymore! I've written it down for my own edification and yours too if you like. If substituting whipping cream, liquid whipped topping or dry whipped topping, whip according to package directions and then measure.

Thank you for helpful information. Trying a Community Cookbook's recipes and everyone seems to use Cool Whip which I do not wish to ingest.

DeleteI am working on a recipe that calls for 16oz of cool whip. I want to make real whipped cream. I see the conversion is 6.5 cups is that before you whip the cream or after? I'm trying ot figure out the starting cream amount I need.
ReplyDeleteThe 6.5 cups would be whipped cream after it has been whipped. You will need about 3.25 cups of liquid cream before it is whipped. Each cup of whipping cream should double in volume when it is whipped. Hope this helps.

ReplyDeleteIt depends if you are using an American or Canadian recipe. It could be anywhere from 4 cups to 6 1/2 cups.
DeleteIf 8 ounces of Cool Whip is 3 cups, then 16 ounces of Cool Whip is 6 cups, not 6 1/2.
